ZAKARIA MOUMNI SENTENCED BY CANADIAN JUSTICE

Zakaria Moumni was sentenced at the end of July by the Canadian superior court, sitting in Montreal. “The judgment stipulates that Zakaria Moumni must pay 30,000 Canadian dollars to Rachid Najahi, general director of the Atlas Media Group (AMG), in compensation for damage caused by unfounded comments made publicly,” reports AMG.

The case, it was recalled, “finds its origins in the events of the seventh edition of the Moroccan festival of Montreal (Throne Festival), on July 29, 2022, organized by Mr. Najahi and the Atlas Media Group. Zakaria Moumni had disrupted the celebration by making insulting remarks towards the Moroccans present and the participants.

Zakaria Moumni had notably accused Mr. Rachid Najahi of being a “paid agent” of the Moroccan government and affirmed that the Moroccan festival was a propaganda activity financed by the government ,” recalls the same source.

However, “it was demonstrated before the court that the Moroccan festival is self-financed and has never received any institutional or state subsidy. The Superior Court of Canada verdict ordered Zakaria Moumni to pay Mr. Rachid Najahi $20,000 for reputational damage and $10,000 in punitive damages. The judgment underlines the importance of truth and responsibility in the dissemination of public information .

“This decision protects the rights and reputation of individuals,” declares Mr. Rachid Najahi. Zakaria Moumni was also accused of physical assault against three participants in the Moroccan party.
