What is in the Speech of HM the King Mohammed VI ? the Sahara issue and the Moroccan diaspora

1. The Sahara Issue :

In a televised speech addressed to the Nation on Saturday evening on the occasion of the Revolution of the king and the people, His Majesty the king Mohammed VI of Morocco focused on two major points, the Sahara Cause and the Moroccan diaspora.

In regard to the Sahara issue, the sovereign stated that the Sahara issue is the lens through which Morocco views its international relations", while describing the issue as the "clear and simple measure for the sincerity of friendships" between Morocco and its partners.

In his speech on this occasion, which marks the celebration of the kingdom's fight against the colonial forces, the king welcomed the new American position over the Sahara and lauded recent moves by Spain and Germany who reversed their previous stances over the Sahara issue and recognised Morocco’s autonomy plan for the territory as the only solution to the dispute.

While reasserting the centrality of the Sahara question for Morocco's diplomacy, His Majesty the King Mohamed VI also pointed out to pro-Polisario militia lobbyists and activists that attempts to seek to pressure the US Administration into a change of its position on the Sahara issue will be to no vail, indicating that the US position in favor of Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara is neither affected by a change of administration in Washington nor influenced by new circumstances.

2. The Moroccan Diaspora :

Concerning the second major point of the speech, the King noted that "given the aspirations of the Moroccan community abroad, the time has come to modernize and upgrade the institutional framework governing these cherished citizens".

In this regard, the King called for the creation of a special mechanism to be tasked with accompanying Moroccan expatriates with talents and supporting their initiatives and projects.

This mechanism "will make it possible to identify expatriate Moroccans with competencies, to stay in touch with them on a continuous basis, and to inform them of their country's potential, including the current development and investment dynamic." stressed the sovereign.

To this end, the King called once again on Moroccan youths and on project holders residing abroad to make the most of the numerous investment opportunities in Morocco, as well as the incentives and guarantees offered by the new investment charter.

While recalling that Morocco has an expatriate community of about five million people, the Sovereign noted that "Moroccans abroad are quite special as they are deeply attached to the homeland and strongly committed to the nation's immutable values, underlying that they are also keen to serve their country's best interests, notwithstanding the problems and hardships they are facing".
