The Moroccan King Mohammed VI launches Morocco's first hydrogen car

King Mohammed VI chaired Monday at the Royal Palace in Rabat the ceremony of presentation of the first vehicle of a Moroccan car manufacturer, as well as the prototype of a hydrogen vehicle developed by a Moroccan living abroad.

The first car was designed by Neo Motors, a Moroccan-owned company, whose factory is based in Ain Aouda, in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region. This vehicle is intended for the local market and for export, it is indicated in a press release, specifying that this first model was already approved in February by the National Agency for Road Safety.

The plant should produce 27,000 units per year and generate 580 jobs. At a cost of 156 million dirhams (14 million euros), it will start its activities probably in June and will make it possible to launch “the first brand of 100% Moroccan cars”.

As for the prototype of the hydrogen vehicle, it was developed by the Namx company, in collaboration with the Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina. The car will be supplied with hydrogen by a central tank supplemented by six other small removable tanks, which will guarantee it great autonomy.
