Slovenia Supports Moroccan Autonomy Plan and Bilateral Cooperation

Rabat, June 11, 2024 — During a recent bilateral meeting held in Rabat, Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita and Slovenian Vice Prime Minister Tanja Fajon engaged in constructive discussions, emphasizing key points related to regional cooperation and diplomatic ties.

Moroccan Autonomy Plan: Slovenia lauded Morocco’s autonomy plan as a significant step toward resolving the longstanding Sahara dispute. The plan provides a pragmatic framework for achieving a consensual solution that respects the rights and aspirations of all parties involved. By endorsing the autonomy plan, Slovenia joins over a hundred UN member states in recognizing its potential to bring stability and lasting peace to the region.


Facilitating Access to the Atlantic Ocean: Morocco’s Royal Initiative, aimed at facilitating Sahel countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean, received warm appreciation from Slovenia. This initiative underscores Morocco’s commitment to regional development and economic integration. By promoting connectivity and trade routes, it contributes to the prosperity of the entire Sahel region.


Strengthening Bilateral Ties: Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation. The meeting emphasized the importance of political dialogue, cultural exchanges, and joint efforts in various fields such as trade, education, and technology. The shared vision of fostering stronger ties underscores the mutual benefits of collaboration.


Morocco’s Strategic Role in the EU: Slovenia acknowledged Morocco’s distinguished role as a strategic partner within the European Union. Morocco’s active engagement in regional and global affairs, its commitment to sustainable development, and its positive influence on EU-Morocco relations were highlighted during the discussions.


Vice Prime Minister Tanja Fajon’s official visit to Morocco, at the invitation of Minister Bourita, coincided with the celebration of the 32nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Slovenia. The meeting served as a testament to the enduring friendship and shared goals between the two nations.
