Sahara: The United States reaffirms its support for the Moroccan autonomy plan

The US Deputy Under Secretary of State for North Africa, Joshua Harris, reaffirmed, on Thursday, the support of the United States for the autonomy plan in the Sahara as being "serious, credible and realistic".

"The United States continues to consider Morocco's autonomy plan as serious, credible and realistic," said a statement from the US Embassy in Rabat after Harris' meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita.

The senior American official, who was accompanied by his country's ambassador to Morocco, Puneet Talwar, also "reaffirmed the deep and historic partnership between the United States and Morocco".

Joshua Harris, whose visit to Rabat caps a regional tour of "Morocco and Algeria", underscored U.S. appreciation for Morocco 's crucial efforts facing a wide range of regional and global challenges, including combating instability in the Sahel, supporting the Libyan elections, and promoting fair measures of freedom, security and prosperity for Israelis and Palestinians.
