The lawyer of the Kingdom in France, Mr Olivier Bratelli dismantled the accusations made against Morocco on the use of the Pegasus software. It is, he says, an international enterprise of destabilization.
The Kingdom's lawyer in France, Mr Olivier Baratelli, said last Friday that 19 months after the complaint filed by Morocco against certain press organs and NGOs, which accused it of having used the spyware Pegasus , "no evidence has been provided to date".
During a press conference devoted to the latest developments in this case, the lawyer denounced a "great manipulation of information" and an "enormous rumor" which targeted Morocco and its institutions. And to add, "we knew it was false and that it is a rumor and a gigantic international enterprise to destabilize Morocco".
A few days later, he adds, Morocco initiated legal proceedings before the Paris Criminal Court for defamation against "Forbiden Stories" and "Amnesty International" as well as against the "most fervent supporters" of these theses in France, namely the media "Le Monde", "France Info", "the investigation unit of France Inter", "Médiapart" and "l'Humanité".
This case, continues Mr Baratelli, was pleaded on February 15 before the Paris Court of Appeal, considering that he had "the impression of a real listening" on the part of the magistrates who will have to pronounce their judgment on April 12. Moreover, he recalled: “since November 2021, the rumors have been “extinguished” after the Prime Minister at the time, Jean Castex, had declared before the National Assembly that the telephone of President Emmanuel Macron was not hacked after being submitted to the expertise of the competent services which examined it and detected no trace of the spy programs”.
The lawyer indicated that despite all these denials, "Le Monde" and "France Inter" continued to spread rumors. This prompted Morocco to relaunch five defamation proceedings. And to specify that: “We met the prosecutor and we enriched her file by showing scientific evidence in support, provided by a team of computer experts, that it was impossible that Morocco could have used this software. This is why after a year the prosecutor considers that we are facing one of the greatest media manipulation operations of all time.
And Mr Baratelli to specify that the team of lawyers of the kingdom in France presented all the proofs showing that Morocco never bought, nor possessed, nor used in a direct or indirect way, the Pegasus software. This is why the prosecutor considered that it was necessary to open this file on a large scale, via a judicial investigation which was entrusted in September 2022 to two investigating judges, concludes the lawyer of the kingdom in France.
