Morocco's High-Level Participation in Senegal's Presidential Inauguration: Strengthening Bilateral Relations

In a restricted ceremony on April 2nd, 2024, Senegal inaugurated its newly elected President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, in the presence of only the leaders of the West African sub-region CEDEAO and Mauritania, which holds the presidency of the African Union. However, the King of Morocco, a leader from outside the sub-region, was invited to attend the official inauguration ceremony, highlighting his African leadership and high esteem.

The invitation of the Moroccan King, represented by the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, to the official inauguration ceremony is not only a recognition of the exceptional bilateral relationship between Morocco and Senegal but also of his role as a friend and leader of Africa and the world. This gesture marks a new milestone in the bilateral relationship, reinforcing the excellent tandem enjoyed by the two countries. They have a shared stature as key regional and international actors in promoting peace, security, stability, and development, and they share values and similarities.

The exceptional invitation of the Moroccan King to attend the official inauguration ceremony of President Faye is a testament to the strong and privileged bilateral relations between the two countries, their leaders, and their peoples, which have lasted for centuries.
