Morocco: Proposals for family code revision to be submitted to King’s appreciation

A meeting was held in Rabat on Saturday, where the members of the committee responsible for revising the Family Code presented their proposals to the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.

The proposals will now be submitted to King Mohammed VI for his consideration. During the meeting, Akhannouch expressed his appreciation for the committee's hard work and dedication, as they were able to complete their mission within the deadlines set by the Sovereign's letter to the Head of Government.

The committee used a participatory approach to revise the Family Code, involving various civil society organizations, political parties, trade unions, judges, activists, researchers, academics, and ministerial institutions and departments.

Akhannouch further emphasized that the committee received memorandums via e-mail, and after examining the proposals arising from the broad participatory consultations, they presented a report on the proposed amendments to the Family Code.

He extended his gratitude to King Mohammed VI for adopting this participatory approach, which aims to strengthen the role of the Moroccan family as a pillar of society. Akhannouch expressed his honor and privilege to present the committee's proposals to the King for his high appreciation.
