Moroccan Royal Speech to Parliament

The King of Morocco delivered the opening speech of the new session of Parliament, also thanking foreign aid and highlighting the internal functioning of institutions; He reiterated to the government the task of revising the Family Code.

Mohammed VI chaired, on Friday 13 October, the opening of the new session of Parliament with a speech in which He underlined the great desire of Morocco, King and people, to rebuild what was destroyed by the September 8 earthquake in the region of Marrakech and High Atlas, by accelerating rehabilitation and providing assistance to families affected by the earthquake so that they have basic services as quickly as possible.


The King reiterated His thanks to the brotherly and friendly countries who expressed their solidarity with the Moroccan people.


The Moroccan King listed the values ​​that unite Moroccans, and which have allowed Morocco to overcome adversity and crises and become stronger to continue its path, with confidence and optimism. These are religious and spiritual values ​​based on Sunni Maliki Islam, which advocates tolerance and coexistence between different faiths and civilizations, national values ​​which founded the Moroccan nation, based on the Monarchy, which shares an allegiance reciprocal relationship between the Throne and the people, and values ​​of solidarity and social cohesion, between groups, generations, and regions of the country, He noted.


As an extension of these national values ​​which sanctify the family and family ties, the King reiterated His message to the government concerning the revision of the Family Code and the implementation of the direct social support program, to realize the values ​​of social solidarity, so deeply rooted among Moroccans.


It will target school-age children, children with disabilities and newborns, as well as needy and disadvantaged families without school-age children, particularly those caring for the elderly. The implementation process of this program will rely on the Unified Social Register, while taking advantage of the efficiency offered by new technologies.


In conclusion, the King of Morocco emphasized respect for the principles of solidarity, transparency, and equity, by providing support to those who deserve it. He also urged the government to prioritize the rationalization and effectiveness of existing social support programs, and to ensure the sustainability of financing means by adopting good governance of this project, in all its dimensions, and by establishing a special monitoring and evaluation mechanism, providing the basis for continued development and evaluation.


HM King Mohammed VI, accompanied by HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, delivered a speech to the Parliament on Friday on the opening of the 1st session of the 3rd legislative year of the 11th legislature .
