Lavrov confirms the holding of military maneuvers in Algeria near the border with Morocco

On the "Russia Today" channel, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov confirmed, on February 1st, the holding of military maneuvers called "Desert Shield 2022" next November.

The head of Russian diplomacy confirmed at the beginning of February that the Algerian-Russian military maneuvers "Desert Shield 2022" will be held in Béchar from November 16 to 28, 2023.

This information contradicts the denial of the Algerian Ministry of National Defense (MND) on the failure to hold this operation. On November 28, 2022, the Algerian authorities broadcast on the national television channel ENTV, a press release from the MND announcing the cancellation of military maneuvers with Russia. However, on its official platforms, the MND did not publish any press release relating to this joint exercise. An approach that aims to sow confusion in international public opinion.

It took the declaration of the head of Russian diplomacy to situate each other.

According to some observers, the approach of the Algerian authorities raises questions and concerns about the real motivations of these maneuvers.

The joint Algerian-Russian military maneuvers called "Desert Shield" will take place from November 16 to 28 in the south-west of the country. The theater of operations is located less than a hundred kilometers from the Moroccan-Algerian border.
