Japan reiterates non-recognition of polisario’s sadr entity in TICAD summit

Japan has reiterated its position regarding the polisario front, emphasizing that it does not recognize the "self-declared sahraoui arab democratic republic (sadr)" and only engages with United Nations (UN) member states.

This stance was reaffirmed by Yoichi Fukuzawa, Japan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, during a plenary summit at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

The incident occurred after a Moroccan diplomat was physically attacked by an Algerian counterpart who attempted to display a nameplate for the "sadr entity" during a ministerial meeting.

Japan’s decision to limit invitations to UN member states within the African Union further undermines Algeria’s influence over the polisario separatists.

Notably, other countries such as Russia, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia have also rejected the participation of the polisario front in their summits with African leaders.

Meanwhile, Morocco continues to advocate for its autonomy plan for the disputed Sahara territory, with support from 37 African states and the assertion that the polisario’s inclusion within the African Union disregards both the UN process and Morocco’s historical rights.
