French National Assembly President reaffirms support for Moroccan sovereignty over Sahara

In a significant diplomatic gesture, Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the French National Assembly, has emphatically reiterated France's unwavering support for Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara region. This pivotal statement was made during her recent visit to Rabat on 13 December, where she addressed the Moroccan House of Representatives.

Braun-Pivet highlighted the longstanding and deep-rooted ties between France and Morocco, stating, "France remains steadfast in its support for Morocco as it faces its existential challenges, including the Sahara issue." She underscored France's position that the future of the Sahara lies firmly within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty.

Reflecting the strength of Franco-Moroccan relations, Braun-Pivet announced plans for a parliamentary mission to the Sahara region aimed at fostering new economic and cultural partnerships. This mission intends to encourage collaboration with French businesses and organizations, benefitting local communities and enhancing development in the region.

This reaffirmation of support comes on the heels of France's official recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara and its endorsement of Morocco's autonomy plan last July. Both nations have since committed to strengthening cooperation across various sectors and opening a new chapter in their bilateral relations.

The announcement has been welcomed with enthusiasm by officials in both Morocco and France, symbolizing an enduring partnership and a shared vision for a prosperous and united future.
