BCIJ Dismantles Daesh Cell Planning Terrorist Attacks in Morocco

In a significant operation, the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), under the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), successfully dismantled a terrorist cell composed of five Daesh supporters. The cell members were allegedly involved in planning and executing terrorist acts to cause serious harm to public order.

The suspects, aged between 22 and 46, were apprehended by DGST’s special forces in various locations, including Casablanca, Tanger, Tétouan, Martil, and the rural commune of Ounagha in the Essaouira province. According to a BCIJ statement, detailed information about their terrorist projects emerged during investigations conducted by DGST services. Initial findings revealed that the suspects had pledged allegiance to Daesh’s self-proclaimed caliphate and expressed their intention to target vital installations and security institutions. Simultaneously, they participated in campaigns promoting violence.

Notably, one of the cell members, who possessed expertise in electronics, had planned the production of explosive devices. The arrested individuals are currently in custody as part of the ongoing judicial inquiry led by BCIJ, supervised by the counter-terrorism prosecutor’s office. The investigation aims to uncover the nature of the cell’s connections and identify its destructive plans and projects.

This successful operation demonstrates Morocco’s commitment to combating terrorism and maintaining public safety. Authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to prevent any threats posed by extremist groups
